🗺️ Terrain Summary
Rome is beautiful but challenging, cobblestone streets, uneven ancient paving, and hills make it tough. The Vatican area and Trastevere riverfront are the most accessible zones.
✅ Flat Areas
Via del Corso shopping street, Piazza Navona area, and the Vatican museums (internal) are relatively flat. Trastevere near the river is manageable.
⚠️ Hilly / Challenging
The Seven Hills, Capitoline, Palatine, Aventine, involve significant climbing. Spanish Steps are famously inaccessible (a lift is available at the nearby Spagna metro station to reach the upper level).
🚫 Areas to Avoid
The Roman Forum features extremely uneven ancient stone paths. The top of St. Peter's Basilica dome is accessible only via narrow stairs. Some historical sites on the Palatine Hill have steep, unpaved terrain.
