🗺️ Terrain Summary

Hastings features a flat coastal strip along the English Channel, contrasted by steep sandstone cliffs and hills. The town is divided between the historic Old Town in a valley, the St Leonards area, and the high ridges of East Hill and West Hill.

✅ Flat Areas

The promenade stretching from the fishing beach at the Stade to the far end of St Leonards is level and wide. The main shopping district around Priory Meadow is also largely flat and accessible.

⚠️ Hilly / Challenging

Both East Hill and West Hill provide steep inclines and views of the town. The narrow residential streets climbing out of the Old Town valley, such as High Street and All Saints Street, involve significant gradients.

🚫 Areas to Avoid

The Hastings Country Park on East Hill contains rugged, uneven paths and steep steps. Many of the historic alleys in the Old Town are inaccessible to those with limited mobility due to steps and narrow widths.
