GoTripAble is not a generic AI travel blog. It is a structured, data-driven suitability checker that pulls together real sources to answer one question: will this destination actually work for me?
GoTripAble is an accessible travel suitability search tool. I built it because the practical information I needed before booking a holiday simply didn't exist in one place. I have a hip disability, muscle wasting and chronic pain, and I was tired of arriving somewhere to discover the "accessible" old town was entirely cobblestoned, or the beach was 400 metres of soft sand.
Standard travel sites tell you a hotel has a lift. They don't tell you whether the historic centre has cobblestones, whether there are toilets within walking distance, or whether summer temperatures would make a destination dangerous for someone with MS or heat intolerance.
GoTripAble combines real data sources, API integrations, accessibility criteria and lived experience to fill that gap, with condition-specific ratings for terrain, toilets, heat, stamina, sensory load, transfer stress and more.
✅ What AI does
❌ What AI doesn't do
The short version: AI is a tool for processing and explaining information, not the source of the information. The source is real destination data, real APIs, real research and real lived experience of disability.
GoTripAble draws on seven types of source to build each destination's profile.
OpenStreetMap
Terrain topology, footpath gradients, step counts, kerb cuts, surface types and facility locations, extracted via Overpass API.
Weather APIs
Historical and seasonal temperature data, humidity, UV index and heat-risk windows for every destination, sourced from OpenWeatherMap.
Google Places
Structured wheelchair accessibility flags pulled directly from Google Places data for top attractions at each destination, including wheelchair accessible entrance, parking, restrooms and seating. Plus accessibility mentions from real Google reviews.
Destination research
Manual research into toilet locations, Changing Places facilities, beach wheelchair availability, accessible transport links, and nearest A&E distances.
Lived experience
GoTripAble was founded by Jacqueline Manning, who has a hip disability, muscle wasting and chronic pain. The criteria are shaped by real conditions, not theoretical accessibility checklists.
Accessibility criteria
A structured set of condition-specific criteria for 36 conditions, covering terrain tolerance, heat sensitivity, toilet urgency, sensory thresholds, stamina limits and transfer stress.
AI as a tool
AI helps organise, compare and explain the information from the above sources. It is not used to generate generic travel content. It is used to apply the criteria framework and surface the relevant detail for each condition.
Each of the eight rating dimensions was chosen because it represents something that genuinely affects whether a holiday works or fails for travellers with health conditions and additional needs.
Terrain
How hilly, cobbled, stepped or uneven the destination is. Rated 1 to 5. A 1 means steep hills, cobblestones and no flat alternatives.
Stamina
How much walking and physical effort the destination typically demands. Considers distances between attractions, transport options and rest opportunities.
Heat
Peak summer temperatures, humidity and the availability of shade and air conditioning. Critical for MS, heat intolerance, POTS, lupus and COPD.
Toilet access
Frequency of accessible toilets, whether Changing Places exist, and how far apart facilities typically are in the tourist areas.
Sensory load
Noise levels, crowd density, lighting conditions and how predictable or unpredictable the environment is. Important for autism, anxiety, migraines and PTSD.
Transfer stress
Airport accessibility, transfer duration, availability of assistance services and the complexity of getting from the airport to the destination.
Pram / buggy
Whether the main tourist areas are navigable with a pushchair, including transport, surfaces and kerb access.
Nearest A&E
Distance to the nearest emergency hospital, whether English is spoken, and the general quality of emergency care.
